Picked this up recently at the Whole Foods in Willamsburg, as i never had this beer before and can't get Wild East where I live here in New Jersey. I didn't know much about this going by the label and even after taking my time with it, there wasn't much that was memorable about this beer. Somehow, it checked off all of the proverbial boxes but given how close these guys are to Other Half, Folksbier, and Threes, their competition just in that part of Brooklyn is quite fierce!
This was golden and muted in hue, as to be expected for a beer of this style. Enough fluffy head topped this off as the lacing left behind was concentrated in the middle of my pint glass as there was a dense section of it there with some well-defined rings in the midst of the suds. Oats, wheat, grass, and light stone fruit filled the nose as the taste contained those as well as some peach, cantaloupe, and citrus pith as this had quite a light feel and body to it. A bit tangy and not dank enough, this went down relatively easily and had a subtle hop burn and swamp water feel in the back once the liquid finally went down.
The carbonation was light and the malt was basic as it was nearly impossible to detect the alcohol in this. I have no idea how fresh this can was as there wasn't anything written on the bottom of it but at least there wasn't any sediment to be seen. This wasn't a disappointment but it was more generic than I would have liked and nothing like the better examples of the style. One of these was enough for me!
