Super relaxed and open brewery, yet lively. A dozen or so taps with emphasis on old school styles, including some faucets for Czech style lagers. Service wa efficient and knew their beer, but not the fastest, but not to the point of annoyance. All the beer was very good, fun old world styles featured was a treat

Started out my mini-tour of Brooklyn here with a pair of lagers. The Thursday afternoon crowd was just my speed, and I enjoyed chatting with the beertender over pours. Hope to visit again.

Life during Covid. Started to the south this fine Brooklyn day, but found nothing but can sales going on and no on prem play, so away I went. Got upta Gowanus in short order and parked amazingly as I do. Had heard some things but hadn’t yet been. Wandered up through their seating pen declined and opted to see what this whole indoor seating thing is about (Oh, inofdoors, how I’ve missed the you!) Fun down Saggett a little ways. I must say, this little stretch of off 4th Ave breweries has become a thing…

Single room with a horseshoe shaped wood plank topped bar, 1” & 2” gray with random colored squared bathroom tile all uneven and seemingly patched base, & no foot rail. Seating for none during Covid life (did you not hear, there’s a pandemic on)? Black piping towers on opposite ends of the bar alternating, each holding 10 block ‘WE’ handles with a different colored cellophane silver dollar sized ‘cowboy riding a lion’ logo.

Concrete floorings & black rafter ceilings with a pair of raised skylights. Large suction cup & drop glass ball lamps in rows. Walls, there are (like) 4 of them. Brick to the front; windowed and the door there (me, pointing). Vertical wood paneled walls framed on both ends with plants potted atop the sills. Rear wall of windows offering brew room views; foeder & barrel rack fronted. Side storage room off the bar and a to-go can cooler. Large red piping piece with handles for the turning on the front wall and extending up and overhead.

At present, there’s seating across 12 tables & booths; 4 shorty 2-seaters distanced on a long shared seating bench below the rear windows, a pair of booths on the far wall, and some squared recs riddled about. Seating during 25% Covid capacity time.

19 taps (18 beers and a cider); the list carved up by Lager, Farmhouse, Refreshing, Sour, Hop Forward, Malt Forward, & Cider (Life on Marz, Festbier Lager, 5.9%; Whither, Helles, 4.7%; Funhaus, German Pilsner, 4.7%; Inverted World, Dark Lager, 4.8%; Fluent, Grisette, 4.5%; Contour Interval No. 1, Wheat Saison, 6.1%; Prescience, Farmhouse Blonde, 5.2%; Alfresco, Kolsch, 5%; Alfresco Cucumber, Kolsch, 5%; Turnstyle, Berliner Weisse, 4%; Turnstyle Sandia, Berliner Weisse with Watermelon & Lime, 4%; Rouge Reserve, Berliner Weisse with Raspberry, 4%; No Pretense, American Pale Ale, 5.2%; Crowded House, DDH IPA, 6.2%; People Power, ESB, 5.4%; Black is Beautiful, Belgian Stout, 7%; Temperance, Dark Mild, 3.1%; Moral Dilemma, Imperial Stout, 8.5%) + 1 guest cider (Kings Highway NY Brut Cider, 6.9%). Also, Supersaturate, DDH IPA, 6%, canned and a few bottle pours, too.

I drank the Life on Marz, Festbier (bready, toasty, yes please); Inverted World, Dark Lager (sweet, good malt character, crisp); People Power, ESB (biscuity, sweety); Temperance, Dark Mild (smooth, malty, toasty, love). All were solid, but the Dark Mild was actual fire. 10 beers coming in at 5% or less. 14oz & 16oz large pours and 10oz & 11oz shorties, hooray.

Tunes are Motowny good, plus alt countryesque, & old school Electronica. I might have gotten my chips on, true. Pretzels, popcorn, sure, I’m crazy like that. Wiz had the jalapeno chips. They did not melt my face as he suggested they would. Probs for the best. Ben, Witz; have you been here before without, you know, me? Yes, it would seem. Shit ass friends, they are.

Follow up visit a few months later with the unusual suspects. This time set up outside in the sidewalk seating pen. Saw some of the same from the time before plus a lot of new fun stuff (Antithesis, West Coast IPA, 7%, dank, pine, citrus, fantastic; Standard Deviation, Stout, 6%, nitro, flaked oats, dark chocolate, yum; Quiescence, Biere De Garde, 7.9%, apple & hop, toffee, malt; Cosmic Arena, BA Saison, 5.9%, tart, hay, lovely; Reverence, Quadrupel, 10%, fuck, it’s dry, prune, uh huh, burnt sugar, deep deep fruit; Fervor & Defiance, Czech Dark Lager, 4.9%, a bready Freddy, cracker, clean; Patience & Fortitude, Czech Pils, 4.7%, herbal, clean, a bit spicy, grain sweetness; Noncompliance, RIS, 9.6%, dark chocolate, burnt sugar; All Pretense, DDH DIPA, 8%, juicy, fruity, goodness; Monopoly: Strata, Single Hop DDH IPA, 6%, hazy, strawberry, citrus). Damn. Am thinking Czech Pils, West Coast IPA, Stout, & Czech Dark Lager for the WINS. Again, 9 beers coming in under 5%. Me likey.

Solid selection, chill house. Someone knows what they’re doing here.

Been open just a few months...terrible covid timing, but they are surviving!

On the outskirts of Park Slope and a bunch of other BKLYN beer and culture rich neighborhoods. This is a mid sized box of a room with the bar in the middle and the brewery in the rear, behind large windows. Open and airy feel, with more large windows looking out to the busy street scene and the outdoor seating area, basically on the street...(not sure if the outdoor option will remain in the post cover times (whenever that is gonna be...)

Friendly and informative woman behind the bar is always a big plus!

Anyway, beer is flowing for onsite consumption (outside) and in cans and crawlers to go...I tried cans of their NEIPA and a rich stout, both to go...and both were top notch...kinda amazing how these new breweries keep popping up and are producing really fine quality product from seemingly day one....well worth checking this place out if you are in the area.
