This one pours a dark but golden brown color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like barleywine candy – it’s unreal how good the aroma coming off of this is. There’s caramel, maple candy, milk chocolate, leather, tobacco, caramelized sugar, raisins, figs, and Rolos – this is absurdly inviting.
Timber is just banging homers out of the park lately – this is one of the best barleywines I’ve had in a while now. It’s just so decadent and a pleasure to drink. There’s so much candied malty goodness – some light fruitiness – like dark chocolate with just a hint of cherry in the middle, there’s also raisin and figs and all that. There’s a ton of barrel too – leather, honey, maple, and tobacco are all there, and seem to be coming from the Weller. There’s also caramel, toffee, and molasses, with just an absurdly enjoyable candied element to it. All of the flavors are layered together expertly.
This is creamy, rich, and smooth, with no booziness at all. It goes down so easily.
This is as top tier as the top tier gets for barrel aged barleywines.
