somewhere between a hefe and a wheat as a base beer, the yeast is estery and spicy and compliments the orange well, but this isnt really about the fermentation, which does smell and taste like it could be cooled down a little bit next time around, but is more part of the cohesive whole than a leader for the aroma or the flavor. the orange stands out more than the yeast to me, and the wheat has an earthy dry raw vibe to it that really works in here. i get some sweet juicy fleshy orange, but also some more bitter, dried, zesty or even pithy character, but its a little more sweet than it is bitter overall. its simple beer really, even with the yeast component in play, and it seems like its shooting to be a light and summery drinker with the natural fruit vibe, which its close to being successful at, but the fermentation needs to be a little cleaner, i want more carbonation for something designed to be sessionable and refreshing, and i think it could stand a little hop bitterness for balance too, traditional or not. that said, its decent stuff, a little different than the normal american wheat because of the yeast, the normal hefe because of the fruit, and its not bad overall, shows a lot of promise. it was however my least favorite of the three beers i had from these guys while i was in town.
