i adore von ebert and have been especially fond of their lagers, they do so many and do them all so well. this one is a hybrid of sorts, they call it innovative on the can, but i didnt find it either very flavorful or very interesting, not one of their more impressive in my opinion, its hoppy yes, and brings in elements of pale ale and pils together, but it drinks a little less strikingly than anticipated. super light in color and fairly clear with a big rising white head on it, looks lovely. i get bitter citrus from the hops, super fresh but pretty bold, maybe simcoe driven, but im not sure what they use, it hits a little danky like that, but could be something else northwestern in here, definite grapefruit, light orange, and sticky pine in the nose, somehow mostly just bitterness on the palate though, the bright fruity aroma doesnt really come through in the taste too well. the malt is european to me, earthy, dry, and clean, with minerals and even some terroir to it, and the lager yeast is tidy in here, this is very well refined overall, bitter but still fast to finish, i think balanced in a new school sense, pleasant top to bottom, but much less "innovative" than expected, its just a hoppy lager that fades a little in the taste. still, the overall quality cannot be denied, these guys know their way around lagers, and this is drinkable and fresh, i just was hoping for a little more...
