CAN
Opaque dark brass with a ribbon of white foam; nectarine chunks, fresh coconut + light yoghurty tang on the nose; honeycomb biscuit, light banana, mashed coconut, top notes of berry, and a husky (vanilla?) undertone to end; light + smooth.
3.75 4 4.25 4 4.25
Strawberry, Banana, Coconut, Vanilla, White Chocolate
This is not what I expected.
Firstly, no lactose or hops to speak of, so not milkshake or IPA at all. And it's subtle - nobody's trying to make a literal fruit smoothie here, which I've had, often for the worse. (Looking at you, Mortalis.)
Instead there's a low hum of tropical, speckles of red fruit that highlight, and a gentle lactic tartness.
The coconut seems overdone done at first, because the vanilla + especially white chocolate don't show for much on their own. But the coconut also never gets unctuous or meaty so I suspect those two adjuncts are actually slyly making the coconut more... itself. Which is very clever.
This is not their highest rated, but there's enough skill on show where I can see why there's fuss around DL.
Wins by doing less, and makes me want more of this brewery.
