Collaboration with Bierstadt Lagerhaus
Back in February our dear friends Bill and Ashley from Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver Co, Flew out to Nashville to make wort and have a good time. While taking a break from gorging on hot chicken and late night honky tonking we managed to brew a beer. Mashed with a conscientiously chosen blend Heirloom barley varieties from Weyermann. As per German tradition it was double decocted for a light malt caramelization and superior drinkability and hopped with the finest Tettnanger from hopheadfarms. Our Maibock spent 11 weeks lagering at frigid temperatures in neutral oak barrels. A waft of springtime, with its malty sweet aroma and floral, grassy layers.

A: Pours a clear medium copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate medium amber + medium golden yellow + honey + light burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy bright white head that slowly reduces to a handful of small to medium sized patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of toasted + caramel + bready + biscuit malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. Light aromas of grassy + floral + slightly spicy hops. Moderate aromas of lager yeast and a hint of oak barrel.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of toasted + caramel + bready + biscuit malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of lager yeast and a hint of oak barrel. Finally there are light flavors of grassy + floral + slightly spicy hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which slowly fades away leaving a relatively clean finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp initially then smooth with a hint of dryness and a relatively clean finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly crisp + smooth + slightly dry yet still clean mouthfeel. Enjoyable with a lot of malt complexity as well as some traditional German hop flavors + aromas. Definitely an excellent example of the style and one I will need to grab again when I see it.

I'm a maibock fan, and this is one of the best beers I've ever had.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
