2020 vintage, into a snifter.
Pours a vibrant, clear amber, with some lingering foam. Aroma is aggressively sour with some aged malts, alongside sour grapes and Barrique's signature wild yeast. VERY SOUR on the nose. Flavor follows the nose. This beer is incredibly sour, but not in a puckering, unpleasant way. The grapes come in on the finish to supplement the initial aged wild ale, but keep it impressively tasty. Tons of estery complexity followed by an angry sour finish, alongside lots of dry grapes. Mouthfeel is good, very lively, which helps tame the sourness and emphasize the grapes.
Overall, Barrique nails it again. I think this ale is a great one to age, as the grape presence becomes very forward and stone-fruit-forward, and the sour yeast profile gets more deeply complex. This ale showcases the best of Barrique's wild ales in its funky complexity white complementing it with some fruit-forward grape flavors. Overall, it's aggressively wine-flavored, but balanced by an angry funkiness.

Poured from a bottle (9/23/19) into a Belgian glass
L: clear red copper color, slight white head that dissipates quickly. No lacing
S: sharp, tart funk with some nice acidity. Some grape notes, mostly white, not sweet
T: wow that is tart. Taste follows the nose, sharp for sure. Finish lingers for a bit, as it lasts find the flavor mellow and becomes much more enjoyable. As it warms I get a bready finish
F: clean, feels more rounded than the nose/taste would lead me to expect
O: a tasty wild ale that delivers a great tart punch. Would say flavor improves as it warms, with the finish highlight for me. Overall a nice beer and look forward to trying more Barrique brews (if I’m lucky enough!)
