Pours with a deep, dark brown in color -black to the naked eye- and topped with a dark tan head. Very good lacing as the head falls, and a very pleasing appearance overall -- shouldn't all porters look this way? : )
Big acrid rush of smoke on the nose, along with a character that I always like to the smell of iodine straight from the medicine chest. Seems dry on the nose, but there's definitely some malt character beneath it, and hints of cocoa and vanilla.
Lighter sweetness on the first sip, along with a BIG, smooth cocoa-smoke-vanilla bean character which seems like it might make this a simply smooth and likable beer, rather than an assertive or challenging one.
The second sip is exceptionally smooth, with the beer fully coating the palate. Very light scrubbing carbonation, but otherwise with a lighter overall mouthfeel (which I would say is on-par, and at least average for the porter style.) The smoke character strikes me as the lighter of the characteristics, with roasted and sweet cocoa in the malt profile, and some lighter herbal (vanilla) characteristics contributing to those. There's even a hint of banana/banana skin (!) -- just don't ask me where I'm getting that from.
I'm not sure that this is a re-make of the earlier "Unplugged" porter of the same name, but that was 6.1% and (I scarcely recall drinking it, but I do recall it . . . ) this one seems to be about the same strength. Not too strong, and
not-dangerously drinkable per se, but exceptionally drinkable and a beer that you'll want to savor, rather than guzzle.
GREAT mouthfeel, it's almost like it's a nitro pour.
Overall this is an exceptional example as far as smoked porters are concerned.

Bottle. Khaki head. Caramel hued brown.
I don’t know if I’d call this a porter, but it tastes like a solid smoked German dark lager. A lot of smoke and bacon flavors. Fried pork. Chocolate and caramel. Medium bodied. Flavorful and easy drinking.

Bottled summer 2016; drank 8/16/16 @ the Yarchives.
Brown/black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; frothy, tree-rung lace.
Smoked peat, banana, caramel & cream notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Smoked peat, cream & medium roast coffee bean flavors.
Smoke forward with subtle flavors underneath; a nice take on the style.

Not a big fan of smoked.
This reminded me of the ashtray in a cheap 1970s hotel lobby.

Dark brown with a large, dense tan creamy froth that slowly settles.
Light smoke is exhibited on the nose with mild to dark roasted malt, hickory and roasted nuts.
Taste is chocolately and roasty with smoke that is woody and not meaty, closing in on nutty, smoked almonds. It really is a lovely smoke, like a campfire, or smoker before throwing on the meat--in other words, it is not overwhelming at all, and is just right.
Moderate body with a nice crisp fizz and a semi-dry finish,

12oz bottle poured into a NG glass
A- pours a deep black color with a two-finger creamy khaki colored head that has great retention long after the pour and leaves some lacing behind
S- smells of roasted malt, chocolate, smoked wood, peat & bandaide
T- smoky and roasted malt up front leads into some chocolaty sweetness, followed by vanilla whipping cream and mocha coffee. The finish brings out some smoked wood that gives light flavors of smoked peat and pork, lingers of smoke and chocolate
M- medium body and moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a creamy silky finish, high drinkability
O- smoke is just the right intensity, super drinkable, wish i had more than one
