Pours a deep burgundy, ruddy reddish brown, with no appreciable head but the lightest, off white ring around the large goblet.
Musty, vinous and grapey, with some funkiness in the background on the nose. Blackcurrant and cherry are the primary fruits, as well as dark grapes. Decent sourness with a mild whiff of vinegar, but not in a detracting way. Feels balanced for the nose.
Complex, fruity, mildly funky and vinous, with a pleasant malt accompaniment at the end. Black cherry, and a pleasant oak aged wine-y vine-y taste, pleasant sweet caramel malt taste on the finish. Strong impressions of gentle wine flavours, fruity ones with an balanced oak aged character, that melds well with a powerful, but backing malty toastiness to the palate.
Medium-light I’m bodied, with good but mild carbonation that only lightly tickles the tongue. Nice complex long finish that is lightly sweet at the end. Acidic bite without appreciable puckering qualities makes this a fairly easy drink, not too astringent, it has a mouthfeel like an oak aged red wine that’s been allowed to decant for an hour.
Remarkably interesting beer, fusion of many styles. Many of the Flanders red ales I’ve had don’t taste quite like this, as always from Meuse it is a unique fusion of multiple styles of old and new world. Love the unfiltered qualities adding a nice musty, yet malty off yeasty-phenolic quality to the edges of this beer.
