Our honey porter is inspired by the Passaic River—a hard-working beer; a hard-working river. Brewed with organic Monmouth County-grown wildflower honey and fermented with Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans and Peruvian cacao nibs, this is a dark, rich, creamy, flavorful treat.

Since I grew up a stone's throw from the Passaic River and have crossed it often over the years, I figured that it was time to give this a go. Thankfully, I was able to get a single can of this recently at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge as it didn't disappoint. The addition of locally-sourced honey complemented everything else nicely as this was an American Porter not quite like any other that I had before!

No doubt that this poured a dark, cola brown with a lovely and fully tan head that smoothly topped this off, evenly settled down, and was exceptionally long-lasting. A nice layered look of rings were left behind as I worked my way through this, which was an indication of how thick this was. Lots of honey, vanilla, and chocolate chip cookie dough were in the nose as the sweetness and stickiness in the taste only added to this beer's appeal. Coffee, chocolate malt, and a bit of roasted bitterness rounded out the mouthfeel as this was wonderfully fun to drink and not in my pint glass for very long!

Thankfully, the alcohol was barely noticeable in this as the flavors and full mouth were more than enough to make up for the hint of booze that was underneath everything by the time I took my last sip. Canned on 9/22 of last year, this held up well over the last six months as I'd easily reach for this again, if I wanted an American Porter brewed in this neck of the woods. Although the ingredients didn't come from the Passaic River vicinity, this was worthy of the Garden State and had a label that fit in well with the Meadowlands. Nice job all around with this one!

Has a solid black appearance with medium light carbonation. Body is around average, thicker, fuller, and creamier than most porters.
Aroma is espresso, dark roasted coffee beans, roasted malt, dark honey dark bakers chocolate.
Taste has a very mild sweetness balanced with coffee bitterness. Some mild char, roasted malt and dark honey.
Overall this was a really flavorful beer that exceeded my expectations.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color. It poured with a two finger high dark tan head that died down but got darker and never completely faded away.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolate malts are present in the nose along with notes of honey.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of chocolate malts along with notes of wildflower blossom honey.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This porter is rather dry but seems to be over carbonated.
