This was another beer that I picked up at Gary's in Wayne late last year, as it was a collaboration between Ross and Cypress. Haven't had a Dunkelweizen in quite some time and this was a true to form take on the style that had a hidden alcoholic presence, although it didn't quite measure up to it's European counterparts.
Not a bad pour to this as this beer had a chestnut brown look to it with garnet around the edges. Plenty of full head topped this off as the tan complemented the liquid nicely. Scattered bits of lacing remained although there weren't any rings easily discernible. Lots of bread and clove in the subdued nose with a hint of banana underneath that, as the latter came out more in the taste. Nearly Belgian in taste, this was a bit hard to pinpoint as I didn't feel the bubblegum much and the wheat was more present in the body than on the tongue.
A bit of dark sediment settled at the bottom as this was dated 2/17 of last year with "NEITHER DAY NOR NIGHT" written underneath that. Sure, this was old and I didn't expect this to bowl me over but it was sufficient to enjoy as the carbonation was mild enough to allow the flavors to emerge and linger. A bit of dark cherry, raisin, currant, and spicy tea stuck around in the aftertaste as this turned out to be quite varied and mysterious - much like the hues visible at twilight. Somehow, this quietly all worked out in the end. Enjoy this with the setting sun, hanging onto the day and the possibilities that could have been...
