Axemann Brewery "Hazy Daisy"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2.33 @ Wegmans, State College, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a very hazy golden body with an orange sheen beneath a finger's width of white foam. Unfortunately the head has dropped before my eyes and it appears that it's about to dwindle away into nothing; at least it started good. The aroma is citrusy and otherwise fruity with soft apple and a hint of berries, and there's some light pine as well. On to the taste... the malt is sweetish, softly grainy, and wheaty. I'm pretty sure there are some oats there as well based on the flavor although anyone with half a brain would guess that there's barley, wheat, and oats in an NEIPA. The hops remains the same as they are in the nose but a lot fuller. I'm getting orange, apricot, nectarine, sweetened pink grapefruit, berries, papaya, mango, pine, and lemon. They're all there if you give it a 'look-see'. A firm bitterness keeps everything in check and brings it to a mainly dry, gently resinous, fruity, and lightly piney and earthy conclusion. In the mouth it's medium bodied and smooth with lots of extra proteins from the wheat and oats and a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. I'm pretty impressed by this. It's the best beer that I've had from Axemann so far.

LOOK; Pours a very translucent hazy dull gold in color with a decent slightly off white head that showed average retention along with decent side glass lace.
AROMA: Citrus fruit, grapefruit some sharp lemon floral hops and balance from a bread malt backbone.
TASTE: Citrus mix of grapefruit, orange, tangerine some pine resin. Malt balance present.
Some citrus sour puckering, and mild bitterness with a pleasant dry finish.

Hmmmm ... hazy is right! A golden color that is hazy to the point of opacity. It is topped by a thick head of tight knit bubbles that has real staying power. The smell is of citrus fruits and pine/spruce. The taste has a good malt backbone supporting piney hops and subtle fruit flavor. It is on the light side of medium bodied. Overall a good refreshing brew.

What a lovely new brewery and lovely offerings! Bought an individual can at the brewery itself, New Year's Eve, 2020, during the dumb shutdown of places because of covid. Can't wait to come back when they are full open. Now for the beer... Beautifully hazy, like a fresh squeezed mixture of oranges and lemons. The smell is fresh citrus and salty sea with a hint of juniper. Bright carbonation hits the tongue with lemon zest zip!

DATE: September 6, 2020... a lot of walkway work, some mini golf and ice cream, and finishing the final season of Community... GLASSWARE: Stoudts pint... a darkened orange amber body clouds the glass, building a healthy, thick, two-fingered blanket of white thickness.... rich grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, light spiciness, resin, and floral notes... a strong presence that entices... as the glass drains, this paints streaks of hazy smears... a nice, medium-bodied beer that has a lively introduction and a beefy finish, robust and lingering... its hop density thickens in mid sip, building a syrupy experience that coats and emboldens... the grapefruit and orange are front and center, while the resin makes each sip a strong yet agreeable experience... secondary hints of spice and lemon, coupled with some toasted malts, make this a pleasant beer with the right ABV and balance... some dank forces at work here too... not a major distinguishing feature, this chews and refreshes well--Axemann did well with this offering...

Great aroma and pretty solid taste...well above average. Solid. Best of this brewers selections in my opinion, far out-paces their Mean Duck Pale Ale which also tried.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Lagunitas mason-glass.
L: Hazy dull dark golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head leave decent lacing.
S: Fruit, malts, and pine.
T.F: Semi-sweet up front... vague fruit and citrus. Not really a juice bomb... some pine and medicinal character. More malty than expected. Moderate bitterness. Medium bodied.
O: Meh. Doesn't look right and doesn't taste right. Not even remotely in the same league as a decent NEIPA.
