Huppendorfer Bier Brauerei Grasser "Huppendorfer Zwickel"
,5L vom fass at the brewery on 16 September 2017
Notes: Delivered to the table with an overflowing head of pillowy white foam atop a hazy golden body. Very good head retention and lacing. Aroma of lightly sweetish and grainy malt backed by distant herbal hops. The flavor follows the aroma exactly with an added median bitterness that balances it and leads to a short and dry finish. Medium-light in body and smooth across the palate with a moderate, natural carbonation. Slightly lighter in body and flavor than many others but also highly refreshing and quaffable.

Pours a clouded, pale golden color with a bigger, fluffy head.
Smell is of cooked peas, matured hops and wet hay among a gentle toffee note.
Has an utmost soft, yet refreshing mouthfeel to it, featuring a light bodied, well balanced beer.
This tastes of bread rind, crackers, tamed toffee and faint noble hops. Turns a tad sweeter then, well carbonated with a layer of toffee creating a well developed malt backbone in this. Finishes a little bit drier, reminiscent of the hops used in this, soft yeast and a remaining bread and toffee interplay, which defines the aftertaste in this.
This is solid, up to the point where I wish to get a little more crispness and character out of this.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden coloration with a large, foamy head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy malt and grassy hops, with a hint of citrus and some fruity yeast esters coming through as well. Taste is a lovely balance of doughy malt, grassy hops and lighter, fruity yeast esters, with hints of citrus and green apple. Finishes with a light bitterness and a very light tartness, with some doughy malt and grassy hops lingering the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
A great Zwickel with an exceptional balance of sweet, bitter, fruity and slightly tart notes. Very easy-drinking and refreshing, yet with a certain, subtle complexity to it, great stuff.

From the half liter bottle, it pours a hazy golden amber with a lusty, thick white head. The head lasts a LONG time. Grass and bread in the nose. Mouth loves the refreshingly malty and lightly bitter flavor. A winner!

Poured from the bottle into a pils style glass.
Bright lemon and a murky faint green color. Opaque with some swamp like hues but a neat color. The head comes out really bright on this even more so, just shining with three fingers of foamy frothy retention and scattered pill like lacing.
The beer smells like a giant breaded dumpling. Mild herbal hop notes, but huge thick bready character and giant balls of soft rolled dough. Some faint spicy notes as well. Just fantastic.
Palate comes nicely. The mouthfeel seems nicer than the flavor it appears, but it still delivers. Slightly chewy notes with a thick spiced honey quality without the sweetness, Mild hints of citrus fruit manage to sneak in strangely but it seems more tropical. It's very hard to put these into words. Perhaps a light melon and cantaloupe really is what it is, yeah that's what I am feeling.
Great palate overall, but there's just something missing on the oomph factor to hit this into the stratosphere. It is though a fantastic Zwickelbier truly unique and wonderful.

Half litre bottle, very pale colour, medium head, clear which is not the norm for a Zwickel. Grassy, hoppy aroma with hints of straw. Very crisp and easy to drink, no bitterness, grassy and slightly malty taste. Was easy on the palate but had some gas. Overall I'd say this was more of a Helles/Export than a Zwickel but it was a very good thirst quencher.
