Brauerei Johannes Hübner "3-Ährenbier"
2,30€ / ,5L glass on tap at the brewery on 20 September 2017
Notes: Don't be confused by the name, an ear is the grain-bearing tip part of the stem of a cereal plant. 3-Ährenbier is brewed with rye, barley, and wheat. It's a hazy golden-orange beneath a full head of white foam. It displays very good head retention and lacing. In the nose it's sweetish and wheaty with some banana and other soft phenolics. The flavor follows, and it's a little sweet but you do get a bit of the spicy rye in the finish. A firm bitterness balances it, bringing it to a mainly dry finish that lingers with sweetish bready grain and a light touch of spiciness. In the mouth it's medium to light-medium in body, and crisp-then-smooth with a fine-bubbled carbonation. It's quite unique, and very charming.
