Appearance: Poured without any head, which for a black as night porter puts me in a position I hate, since the body is entirely opaque and shows no signs of carbonation, but it's not exactly supposed to.

Smell: Dark chocolate with a sweet vanilla and sugary note. It didn't need warming to come out and the potency is good. There's not a lot to say here, as what's there seems good.

Taste: Sweeter dark chocolate that turns a bit more bitter with maybe a mild tobacco note before another sweet hit of vanilla comes forward. It's a bit too sweet, but it's still solid.

Mouthfeel: The complete lack of carbonation is a huge let down on this beer, as I think it would have had a bit more of a stabilizing effect, the transitioning is solid, and the aftertaste is a nice sweet chocolate and vanilla mix, but it has a weird syrupy texture to it which I suspect is the low carbonation at work again.

Drinkability: I mean, it is labelled as a chocolate porter, so I guess some sweetness was to be expected, I just didn't expect this much. Medium bodied which for a porter is fine, but I think is doing this beer a bit of a disservice again, as what viscosity there is, tastes syrupy. Settles down well enough. I should also note, it hides its hire ABV in immaculate fashion.

Final Thoughts: So the beer isn't bad, but it's not at all what I expected from a beer branding itself as slightly creepy, with a long limbed man pulling himself out from a basement as far as I can tell. Something like this should be branded as a desert beer, because that is what this is. It's not too often I say I feel a beer would be better with a bit more bitterness, but this one would do it.

Got this one from Terry and Emma. Cheers!

From a 473ml can into a pint glass
Imperial Chocolate Porter

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields no real discernable head. Black body with no carbonation evident. A faint, splotch wisp forms, but that’s it. Touches of wisp remain but looks mostly flat by the end.

SMELL: Roasted aromas, chocolate on the nose, some light molasses and burnt aromas, with hints of vanilla cream.

TASTE: Roasted flavors, some chocolate and coffee flavors, with vanilla notes, sweet molasses, touches of soy, and hints of tobacco up front. Flavorful for sure. Bold finish of roasted malts, some bitter coffee, tobacco, sweet molasses and chocolate, as well as a touch of alcohol lingers on the palate. Solid and enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, a bit syrupy, goes down fine and finishes somewhat sticky on the palate. No heat lingers.

OVERALL: Good stuff. The tobacco and soy combo reminds me of some of the old-school American imperial stouts we used to drink many moons ago. Solid look and feel on this one as well, though a bit more of a head would have been appreciated. Still, that’s a minor point. Flavorful with lots of character going on, and a weighty feel to support it all. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of the style. Thanks again, guys!

Yes an imperial porter, from the source, a pastry porter with chocolate.Bourbon just increases the sweetness. Above average mouthfeel. Above average creation here.

Can from local bottle shop - pours midnight black with 3 finger mocha cap which lasts and laces the glass....aroma is rich in roasted malts, tones of chocolate, some whisps of grssiness....rich, full body, filling satisfying character...flavor has all those vivid roasty-cocoa malts up front then some hop bittering balances out the light sweetness in the back side....finish is long, wet, roasty with increasing bitterness....light astringent aftertaste...a very pleasant robust porter

Can: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some black chocolate notes and with light bitter notes. Taste is a mix of black chocolate notes with some intense cocoa notes and light biter roasted malt notes. Body is full with nice creamy notes and good carbonation without much alcohol notes perceptible.Solid porter without too much residual sugar notes which surprises me considering the brewery tends to like to brew sweeter beers.

Beer 6/12 from the Durand haul. Canned April 6, 2022.

Appearance - Nearly black brew with a half finger of loose tan foam that fizzles out in a minute.

Smell - Dark and roasty, hints of dark chocolate, coffee powder and even more dark roasty chocolate notes. Earthy undertones.

Taste - Plenty but not an overwhelming amount of dark chocolate, medium-full bitterness, but not an assault on the senses. Booze well hidden here but does show as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Full bodied and thick yet has an oily slickness going down the gullet. Carbonation is low. Booze well hidden. Drinks kind of thick like a milkshake in a sense.

Overall - As a chocolate imperial porter this is great and hits that chocolate dimension very nicely with a full flavored and textured brew. Nothing too complicated but the 11% ABV is disguised very well. Very, very good beer.
