Appearance: Poured as black as night with a thumb's worth of head that immediately dissipated and thus produced no lacing. Not even an island of head sticks around.

Smell: Mostly absent, even after warming up. I think I am catching a little bit of burnt malt and sweetened coffee, but that's it. The potency just isn't there, it's just for something advertising itself as a double stout, it is incredibly disappointing.

Taste: Remarkably subdued, and it definitely has lactose in it, that's for sure. It starts with a coffee and heavy whipped cream note, before a touch of bitter malt tries to power through without success, only to then end with a bitter coffee note. It honestly tastes watered down, like this should be marketed as a light coffee porter, not some beastial double stout.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is there, but it's not creamy but almost lager like and seems to only show up near the end of the beer. The transitioning is odd, as it seems to fight against one type of bitterness only to give way to a different kind. The Aftertaste is good though, like some kind of chocolate latte note.

Drinkability: I mean, it's easy to drink, but frankly too easy to drink for this style. An 8.5% that is this mild is kind of dangerous, but not quite what I am looking for in either a milk stout or a "Double Stout". At least it's fairly thick in texture and settles well.

Final Thoughts: So this isn't a bad beer, but it leaves more questions then answers. First, this is a milk stout, so it should be branded as such. The addition of "Double Milk Stout" would have helped. This isn't what you'd expect from a stout branding itself with a name "Each Beast a God: Double Stout". It's not especially powerful, nor some massive flavor bomb. Second, this should be branded as a coffee or latte porter to be honest. However, even with that branding, for an an 8.5% offering, this comes across as awfully tame. It's just a confused beer that seems incredibly out of style.

It looks good. It smells good. But it tastes watery.
Black pour and the nose is pretty well a perfect coffee scent. But how can something this strong be so watered down?
Still, it is nice, just not good enough at this level.

Overally sweet compared to the rest of the series that continues through the day. Coffee and a decent base stout is something of flavour. Question which bean.
