Appearance: Pours with a thumb's worth of head that produced some lace but didn't stick around very long. The body is an opaque dark brown that doesn't quite hit black but comes close.
Smell: Has a smokey scent to it, with tobacco notes standing in front of dark chocolate malt, needed a little warming to come out but not much. Decent potency.
Taste: Mild chocolate mild that turns to smoke from more burnt malt and some non-descript hops at the end. It had a unique bitterness to it because of the smoke, but it's a bit too single noted. Still interesting enough.
Mouthfeel: The carbonation on this beer is good, but the transition from sweet to smoky biterness is not a great one. Aftertaste is mostly smoke and burnt malt that doesn't cling much but leaves you a bit too dry.
Drinkabiliy: It's different, but it's in an odd spot for a beer. It's not thick and bold enough to be a sipper, it's too bitter to be a guzzler, and it doesn't have quite the character to really savour it. That said, it was easy enough to drink down and was light on the system despite a medium body.
Final Thoughts: I mean, it's a good beer, and it's done well enough but this isn't something I'd seek out. It just not hitting enough notes for me. It's an honest crack at a fairly uncommon style here in Ontario, so that deserves something. It just needs something to lengthen the experience, but what and how to do that, I don't know.

Very roasty and thin, but recently obtained from the source. in a word, harsh and thin. Residual hop flavour. Quaffable but not best example of the style.
