Memories of young brewery days just down the road some so long ago. And halfway in between there and here, that music festival where I saw Aimee Mann (on stage) & Matthew Sweet (under the big top) play a few years back. Hey, I meant to ask you, did the 10,000 Maniacs (sans Natalie) really pull out of playing just a few weeks before the music fest this year? Oh, that sucks. Sunday fact finding mission in P’ville for beerings. On a tight one way off the back side of the train station, corner space mid-way up, just around the bend…
Wall of windows front & side with a logo SOUL star, and strung lighting up and down. Clouded concrete inner wall & cinder block outer wall Logo’d. Concrete floorings, corrugated ceiling on brown I-beams & crossbeams with spinny fans for the cool, and ductwork, too. Drop pan single filaments tracing the bar, larger pan lamps dangling over the seating, & filament pear bulbs strung in rows and rows.
Me, I’m at the bar; ‘L’ shaped, dinged and stained copper topped (as they all should be), and a horizontal wood plank base. Seating for 9 or so on hightop black metal chairs. Barback center holds horizontal slats boards in 2 rows vertically listing draft selections (beer, style, & ABV) in alt colored chalkings, over a 10 tap non-descript handle row below on a copper panel. Piping shelving units to both sides with glassware, flight boards, soda, snacks, N/A, and random pieces (an old radio, potted plantings, a rotary phone, beer books), over a crowler crimper countered and a toaster oven, too. Flats on the ends.
5 round baby hightops & 5 sets of low square pairs of tables (meaning 10 2-seaters). Bar counter in the front windows stooled for 6, another one forward the bar on the inner wall for 4, & another one for 4 to the rear of the bar (work those perimeters!). And slight seating outside on a few hightops off the hop trellis lined driveway.
Upcoming events board (open mic night, trivia, yoga, new beer, block parties, live music) up front over TAP NY medals framed, and a can & bottle cooler. Some good art (music venue pieces, old Jazz b/w’s, a boss Quadrophenia movie poster). Merch & a game rack for the playing of to the rear.
10 beers up (Firefly Summer Ale, 4.9%; Analog, Pale Ale, 5.2%; Sly, West Coast IPA, 6.7%; El Tropical, NE IPA, 6.7%; Mix Tape Series, Blackberry/Raspberry Sour, 5%; Mayfly, Maibock, 6.8%; Cloud 9, Witbier, 4.9%; Soulstice, Dark Belgian Ale, 9%; 2 Tone, Chocolate Milk Porter, 4.5%: Otis, Oatmeal Stout, 4.3%), + soda, seltzer, cider, wine, & NAs.
I may have gotten into a few. Sly, West Coast IPA, citrus, good bitterness, solid; Mayfly, Maibock, good malt backbone, toasty; Cloud 9, Witbier, coriander, check, highly quaffable, nice Belgian Wit; Otis, Oatmeal Stout, tasty tasty, creamy, a little chocolate & coffee; El Tropical, NE IPA, hazy, tropical fruitiness, citrus, piney, I like. Sly West Coast IPA, Mayfly Maibock, & Otis Oatmeal Stout for the wins, but really everything was good.
Raised brewery to the rear. I sees it back there. Good Jazz being played (they got soul, troo). Pretzels & Empanadas for the eat. Charlietender today, nice kid, service was on. Chill, friendly crowd (got to hear local Matt’s horrible bike story so that was something). Pleasant beerings in Pleasantville.

Corner store front brewery on the main drag near the train station in downtown. The high ceilings and the 2 glass walls give the place a very open feel. Short U-shaped bar perpendicular to entrance on the left seats about a dozen, with a few table along the opposite wall and outside on the sidewalk. A dozen or so beers on tap, I had the Sly which was solid. Friendly service and lots of games.

Terrific addition to the Westchester beer scene. Soul has an authentic industrial feel with great music. Staff have been friendly and knowledgeable about the beer selections. Nice variety with something for every taste--IPAs, Stout, Dubbel, Lager, Gose, etc. Typically you can observe Allen, the Brewmeister, at work in the level above. This place will be even more amazing once things open up and they can have more events and live music. Check it out in Pleasantville!

Brand new spot...poor covid luck...they were trying to open just as things got crazy...anyway now they are up and running with beer to go in crowlers and outdoor tables are available to enjoy their creations.
Corner spot, with big windows, Main Street in Pleasantville, just a few stores down from the Metro North rail station.
Bring in your own food, enjoy the pleasant street seating scene and try some of their quality brews...I sampled the IPA, and Belgian dubble and got a growler of the brown ale to go...all on point and tasty...will be interesting to see how this place grows and matures. Quality addition to the local scene.
