Pours a juicy, golden copper in color with a good amount of frothy white foam on top and plenty of particulates. Carbonation looks average and there's a little bit of lacing as you drink. Aroma is melon, lime, grape and caramel malts, much hoppier than anticipated, but a lovely aroma. Taste follows the nose pretty well. Melon, lychee and citrus hops up front, climaxing with a spicy, zesty herbalness with a lingering grapefruit and lemon rind on the tongue. The malts are quite subtle, lurking in the background and perhaps most apparently towards the swallow. Finishes dry with lingering hop oils on the tongue. As with the aroma, much more hop presence than expected from an APA. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with zesty carbonation and a good amount of chewiness.
Overall, this was a lot more hop-forward than I expected, to the point that I question the designation of an American Pale Ale as opposed to an Indian Pale Ale. That aside, the flavor profile is very good and offers a good amount of complexity, and it's just balanced enough to remain quite drinkable. I am impressed. This is my second offering from Bear King, and both have been solidly above average. I will definitely seek this and other offerings from this company out in the future. Cheers!

can dated 9/19/20; "know when to hold 3M" *snort*

this is a single hop (citra) American style Pale Ale from a newer brewery in Marble Falls, Bear King
pours a slightly hazy amber-tinged golden body with a billowing off-white rocky froth foam head that has moderately high retention and leaves behind copious amounts of thick sticky lacing as it settles to an uneven rocky cap. a beauty to look at!
the aroma is a clean offering of grapefruit, lime, and orange, with a side of slightly grainy caramel malt
taste follows the nose, and blossoms beautifully, releasing a solid representation of the Citra hop. as it warms, the funkier notes of lychee and gooseberry find their way onto the stage. it's balance between earthy, citrus, and sweet is extremely clean.
the mouthfeel is relatively smooth; moderately high carbonation and medium-light body make for a pillowy experience that balances out the somewhat grainy nature of the malt profile. the finish is slightly dry with a grapefruit forward hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste that lingers for a while.
overall:
this brew is a super clean and easy yet rewarding and somewhat complex Pale Ale. it's lively, a little funky/tart when it warms up, and has a super easy mouthfeel and citrus profile that provide a killer amount of balance that is honestly kind of dumbfounding from such a young brewery. based on this brew alone, I'll be a fan for as long as they're open and cannot wait to dig into the rest of their roster.
