Beautiful crystal clear copper/amber body with sandy-colored head that leaves a curtain of lace around the glass. The nose offers toasty malt, dark fruit, and a hint of warm spices. The flavor is much the same- malt, bread crust, raisin, a bit of spice- perhaps from the hops? It's not at all hoppy per se nor inappropriately bitter, just that some hops can taste like spice to me, especially with a combo of a hearty 7.3%, which is otherwise undetectable. It's straightforward but nicely balanced. Full body, weighty, moderate carbonation, and that head is nice and thick, foamy some might say, before it fades.
An excellent start to my gifted holiday beer portfolio. Nothing overdone or unbalanced, I think Belgian establishments in Belgium would be happy to serve this to Belgians.
