150 years of Weiherer beer – that's something to celebrate! And with the Weiherer Festbier, brewed especially for this occasion. It's a robust, golden, and gleaming beer with Franconian malt, a full-bodied flavor, and hopped with Spalter Select. And: in its anniversary year (2024), it was awarded bronze at the World Beer Awards! Original gravity: 13.8%

Yields a clear golden color with a huge, stable white head atop.
Aromas lead with straw, nuanced toffee and a whiff of wet autumn forest.
Mouthfeel on this is refreshing and light among a well balanced, light body.
Tastes of dried hay, incredibly spicy hops which manage to blend incredibly well into sweet caramel and rustic whole grain bread. Develops a vivid, yet well nuanced effervescence during mid palate with sweet, honex dipped toffee among balancing garden herbs becoming more apparent. Finishes with maintaining, dry hops, layers of caramel and balancing straw, creating a crisp finish.
This is a very well done, versatile Festbier, accomplishing quite a lot from the prominent hops in this, while showcasing a traditional, malt forward beer nonetheless.

Relative to other Bamberg Festbiers I've had this year, the Weiherer has hops that come in faster and stay longer. (They should consider importing this to the American market.) Kundmuller also has an English translation button on their website, not common among smaller Bavarian brewers. I particularly enjoyed reading their family history and how convenient marriages kept the brewery going after sudden deaths of whomever was running it previously. Every family's got drama! They've also won a ton of awards. So for the awards, the family drama and particularly the translation, I give Kundmuller very good Overall Hugs.
As for their Fest, not my favourite so far this season. (And I'm finding a lot more Fests this year in London than I found in Chicago; more Fests than Marzens also.) Anyhow... Weiherer Looks tame, not much foam. Smells are average, an OK sweet malt but no particular clues about the hops. For Tastes, I prefer milder, less bitter hops; but this is suitable for Americans. Ship it over ! Medium-mouthed.
