My first beer from Gotahold!
Pours a golden bright straw color. Small white head even after a somewhat vigorous pour, but dissipates very quickly and not much lacing or head retention to speak of. Carbonation stays alive down in the glass, so it isn't undercarbed or flat, but it just disappears once it hits the surface.
Aroma is great. Straw, grassy, herbal. Saison yeast jumps out with some nice light Brett funk. Has that stewed mango peach going on, which I love in a wood aged wild beer. Honey sweetness accompanies.
The palate is where this beer fails to live up to the excitement I got from the nose. Very thin and too light. Doesn't have the richness or the depth of flavor that the aroma gave off. Quick finish and a good bit of those flavors that I smelled aren't present when I take a sip. I don't want to hate on this beer, it is nice and light and enjoyable. Lemon/light citrus and the same nice herbal flavors mixed with a very light touch of oak. I do admittedly tend to take a more harsh judgement of beers from my home state.
There is a bunch of promise here and with refinement and a few more batches, this could become a very very great beer.
