Based on old English recipes researched and posted on the informative and hilarious blog "Shut Up About Barclay Perkins" by Ron Pattinson, we amalgamated our favorites and applied our modern sensibilities to brew up this historic beer. Made with the most beautiful East Kent Golding hops and all English malts

16oz can served in a stemless rastal. Don't see a date on it. Got it from @Braunmeister_1943.
Pours dark brown, small head that settles in a few minutes to a thin blanket covering about two thirds of the surface. Ring is thick, lots of active carbonation. Smell is very porter -- a little black licorice, some light coffee and chocolate syrup, some rising dough yeastiness.
Taste is more on the roasty side, little wisps of smoke wafting up through my sinuses. Dark fruit, earthy bitterness, slightly charred biscuits.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, tiny prickliness that is quite satisfying. Nice beer.

I am trying a half pour of this beer off the tapper at the brewery. It poured a nearly opaque dark amber with ecru head that is leaving some lace. The scent had dark chocolate and roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with smoove semi sweet dark chocolate malt base with roasty goodness. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

on draft at the brewpub, in half liter glass
black in color, with thick cream colored head. good head retention. aroma and taste have a lot of dark chocolate flavor, mildly roasty. A little toasty as well. Well balanced. Fuller bodied, smooth feel
