In an imperial pint glass the beer was a dark brown color with some hints of red. It had a light tan head with a bit of lace.
Aroma was sweet brown sugar with some herbal/piney hops.
Taste followed form. Sweet brown sugar and a kiss of hops. A tad on the sour side.
A pleasant beer, easy to drink. Sessionable.

A difficult beer to review since I only had it once (earlier this evening) but didn't have any note taking tools to record my impressions right there.
Still, the beer list board had it's ABV listed at 4.5% and the server did say it was one of three beer styles to have originated in the US (although the current Wikipedia listing for Kentucky Common states it's one of two original US styles). He also mentioned it was aged in oak barrels.
It arrived with a robust dark color and thin head. Fairly light nose. Flavor had some dark grain notes with a light hint of woodiness. It was relatively light bodied.
I wish I had more details on my tasting experience and something else to compare it to, but I do know it was tasty enough for a relatively low alcohol content beer, and if it's a fair representation of a largely forgotten style, then perhaps other brewers need to give this one a shot as I think the style has potential for revival.
