Sampling from a fresh 32 oz growler poured into a snifter. Maybe should be unretired?
Pours a slightly cloudy copper color with very fizzy offwhite head of 1 cm that fades quickly to a thin edge layer.
The aroma is sweet up front with some bubble gum and sweet spiciness mixing together. I also get a bit of white grape to round out the nose. No hops or booze appear at this step in the sampling.
The first sip reveals a light and crisp textured body with very fine and tingling carbonation. The bubbles are so lively in my mouth that I can hear them fizz if I let the beer sit before swallowing. And that doesnt even account for how prickly the bubbles feel as the beer rests.
The flavor is sweet as well with some caramel and again white grapes and some light spices. This moves to a slightly grainy biscuity malt flavor on the finish. I dont get any hops nor booze and the beer is very easy to drink. But the sour part of the name is a bit of a misnomer, IMO. Maybe a little tart on the flavor profile, but otherwise not really what I expected form the beer. IT is an easy drinker and interesting enough, just not a sour. Worth a try if you like Belgian style golden to dubble style brews.
