Thanks to Alex for this one. 22oz bomber into a pint glass. Best by date of 8/13.
Pours a coarse, 1.5 finger light cream colored head with low retention. Beer is a slightly cloudy bronze. Lacing is thick, spotty and patchy with good stick. Decent.
Nose is clove, citrus, cane sugar with a nice, pleasant breadiness. Moderately aromatic but pretty appetizing.
Opens slightly tart. Pear, Belgian yeast, and clove with hints of sap and citrus hop bitterness in the middle. Big malt body in the end with a foamy, hop bitter finish. Slightly tart, citrusy aftertaste. Just a bit above average.
Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and goes down crisp and clean. Clean finish with a slightly lingering, dry, filmy aftertaste. Pretty refreshing.
I've never met a Belgian IPA that I've felt strongly about either way and Petite Effronte is no different. Pretty good overall but there's nothing that really stands out here. I'd pass next time.

Had on tap. Somewhat murky orange body with a white ring. Huge spices with leafy hops in the nose, combined with the citrus tones it kind of smells like cleaning products. Taste has big citrus, light esters with yeast, but then not much else, malt backbone is weak. This continues in the feel, just breaks down halfway through the sip, hops and yeast can't carry as both are so gentle

Pours a deep golden to copper brown body beneath the rocky, off white head, which slowly dissolves to leave a scattered lacing around the glass.
Pleasant Belgian yeast and sugar aromas float from the glass. A touch of fruity esters and just hints of citrus also appear and as it warms there may even be a touch of banana.
The flavor leans more to Tripel meets Belgian Pale with hints of spice, clove and banana with a touch of citrus hops and perhaps only a touch of biscuit malt you really have to search for.
Medium to generous in carbonation with a medium body and a drying hop finish.
A nice, clean beer as the session style Portsmouth seemed to be seeking is reached with a lower ABV, which also may lend to the lower hop profile than expected, but the traditional Belgian Pale/Tripel character came through nicely.
