Chalk my difficulty rating this beer at the brewery to the blurry lines of Porter and stout. This seemed more like a stout to me. A bold one, for sure, made more surprising by the less than 6% ABV.
This is more beer in heft than an Irish dry, and really hits me as an American regular strength stout - if they exist. It’s roasty, somewhat bitter, fairly full, but not hammering me down.
Warmth helps center this a bit, I think. Yeah, there’s roasted malt, leaning baker’s chocolate but with a burnt toast edge, but also a sweetness as it warms with a very light tang.
I’d argue you should try this one for yourself, if you’re not a stickler for substyles of porters/stout. If your a general fan of roasty beers, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Beige, lasting head with plenty of lacing. Muddy brown color where light passes along the edge.
Dried unsweetened cocoa and fresh ground coffee aroma. Slightly chalky.
Thin bodied with neutral carbonation. Strong on the darker malts, particularly the burnt elements of black patent malt. The finish becomes more chocolatey (Baker’s unsweetened).
