a quality black lager here, not overly german to me on the grain or yeast fronts, but a well made beer, balanced and drinkable with a pleasing dryness on the back end and less body than it looks like it should have for its color, good to see these guys branching out a bit style wise too, quite a few new ones on in my recent visit. this is deep brown in color but not viscous at all under almost an inch of off white froth. it smells and tastes roast forward, deeper than it looks to me, especially in aroma, some light crystal malt richness in the middle, a little bit of a bready thing, some dry cocoa too, good malt layering, and finally a pretty clean ferment and lagering, the yeast familiar and old worldy but not particularly robust. there is nice balance to this, not that much bitterness from the dark grain but enough to keep it drinking hearty, and there is smartly not much from the hops. i really like the smoothness in the texture and the finishing dryness, a little light on carbonation, but i think they did a nice job with this overall. ive heard other people opine that the beer is really hit or miss here, but for me its been largely hits in my half dozen or so visits, i think they are doing solid work in the brew house!

Draft at brewery. Dark brown pour, small, bubbly beige head. Faint roasty malts in the aroma. Taste is roasty with a touch of sweetness, light bitterness. On target
