fresh and tasty rye ipa here, perhaps just a little conservative on the rye, but i love pale rye malt in hoppy beer and could definitely take a higher percentage of it in the grain bill, even drop out a little balancing sweetness from this middle crystal malt they have in here for a more spicy and assertive beer overall, but they did a good job with this, its well proportioned overall, its pretty bold on the whole, but presents more like a pale ale to me, with restrained hop bitterness on the back end and just as much flavor coming from the malt as from the hops here. honey colored beer with fine clarity and a short white head from the tap. aroma of earthy rye malt with a little white pepper thing, some soft bready heartiness, and the hops come in with some classic northwestern woodsy vibes, pine needles and sticky sap, a little bitter citrus, all very fresh. the flavor is similar, a little front end richness to the grain with the rye mostly in the second half of this, and the hops taking on some sweet orange and weedy character, all balanced and clean. the ferment is invisible an the body is a fuller medium, this is a little old school overall, but its very good from a quality standpoint. beef up the rye a little bit and i think you make it better still, but they did a good job with this. my favorite pint i had when we were there recently, bad rye pun aside...
