i love everything about this, its complex but astoundingly subtle, really well refined, different and even weird, but so drinkable too, biere de garde base but not heavy on the darker grains and really low in alcohol and dry without hardly any astringency, delicate as the style goes, and its blended with cold brewed coffee, a super cool touch for this style. i love the name, and i love the beer, supermoon really impressed me top to bottom and this was among the best of them i had while i was there. the lightest amber color on this, creamy sudsy inch of lasting white head with huge air pockets in it from the tap, a little haze too but still light. the nose is mellow on the coffee but its right there with the richer malts, not so roasted that it stands out like that, way more in the chocolate and raisin range, or else its diluted enough in here to present that way, chestnut and almond, dry cocoa, faint smoke on top of kilned type barley malt, some sturdy wheat, and with only a relaxed yeast ester here, minor tang, white pepper and clove, and white wine, really interesting but its not in your face at all. the coffee is lovely with this yeast in the flavor, both restrained and approachable, nutty meets spicy with a sort of cozy warmth about it, and the grain really fleshes it out, faint toffee and caramelized elements, but this is very dry by the end. a wrinkle of anise, leather, and cigar before the swallow and then gone. fluffy feeling, light bodied for its color and for the style, and without any real coffee bitterness at the end. i really like this, love how it warms up, and think both the recipe and the execution are dialed. supermoon is really doing it up right!
