Cheshire Brewing Co. "Sour Cat Razz"
$7 / 10 fl. oz. on tap at the brewery on 2/11/23
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's a hazy gold in color with just a thin collar of white foam. That's understandable as sour beers generally don't have much head retention. Obviously there'll be no lacing. The aroma suggests tartness and has an apple-like aroma to it. I'm not finding raspberry. On that note, is this actually made with raspberry? There's nothing on the menu or the beer board about it. On to the taste then. It's quite tart, and apple-like. There's a hint of raspberry but not much. It's grainy and bready, and there are no hop notes as expected. I can't be sure but this doesn't seem like a kettle sour as it doesn't have the usual mineralish character and I wonder if they've used Lallemand's Philly Sour yeast or even the Apex Special Sour. That's a bonus for me as I've tired of all the crushed granite and slate-like flavors found in so many sour beers. But again, I could be wrong. It's medium in body on the lower end and gently carbonated as appropriate; otherwise the carbonic acid from the carbon dioxide amplifies the sourness. If this had not been named Sour Cat Razz I would be completely fine with it as a straightforward sour beer but I'm now a little let down that there's not more raspberry to it. That won't really affect my score, I'm just passing on my personal thoughts.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
