my first beer from these folks, a basic mexican lager, not as light as many but i dont mind that, not a vienna type either, less grain character than that, but far from watered down this has some real body to it, and i think exhibits some technical competence, even if it is a little bit unconventional in this style realm. a half shade darker than the standard pale mexican lagers, good head from the tap, bone white. the nose on this is subtle, less fruity than i am used to from mexican lager yeast, this could be a more mellow strain or perhaps just a standard lager strain, and the hops too seem held back some, so its the grain that leads the way, even though this is not malty per se, if that makes sense. not quite nutty, nor toasted, and it stays on the dry side, but the grain has a breadiness to it a little more robust than most of these. the finish is clean, the lagering patient, and overall this is balanced in a cool way and very drinkable, although i could definitely see the acidity of a lime wedge elevating it a bit and making it more refreshing. the carbonation is fine, and even though this is simple, its quite well done. good introduction to this place, hope to check them out in person next time through...
