When sweet peaches meet the mild tartness of this classic low-alc sour wheat beer, the result is our refreshing Painted Lake Peach Crisp.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 6 2025 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a crystal clear pale golden colour, kicking up one finger of soapy white head that collapses within sixty seconds or so. A thin collar is the lone survivor; the surface is otherwise barren, and there's minimal lace production. I'm getting peach drink on the nose, though there's also suggestions of actual peach juice that lend some semblance of authenticity to the aroma; hints of lemon yogurt and wheat are quite faint.

The flavours are lacking in substance, but generally palatable. Tart peach drink comes through early on, with sweet peach developing by mid-sip; there's also some gritty, grainy malt flavours underneath. Mildly lemony-tart conclusion with peach flavouring that fades into the aftertaste. Very light in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's thin mouthfeel. Easy to drink and pretty thirst-quenching.

Final Grade: 3.41, a B-. Painted Lake Peach Crisp is a watery, one-note light soured ale that didn't do much for me. This one's kind of an edge case: it's almost not sour enough to qualify as a genuine sour, but the malts are so faint that it doesn't work as a pale wheat ale, either. The peach flavouring is also rather unconvincing, i.e. I never got the sense that this liquid was ever in contact with an actual peach/peach juice. On the other hand, it's refreshing, and if you enjoy peach-flavoured stuff you might enjoy this a lot more than I did. I doubt I'll buy this again, but I wouldn't discourage others from trying it.
