This organic Helles is good enough to be drunk side-by-side with one from the Bavarian masters... just to make sure that Ekotrebol has brewed a Helles as good as it seems. Many of the subtleties of lagering a Helles I cannot describe, but usually can discern when drinking the best. This Helles from Ekotrebol is very close to many of those subtleties. So it is probably better for a lager specialist to review this in-depth.
Ekotrebol's Helles Looks slightly above average, a nice foam and enough of it sticks around. Smells are average, sweet malt but not distinct to this nose. Tastes are well-balanced, still sweet biscuits but just enough hops in the finish to create interest. Medium-mouthed, soft but lacking fullness.
As for giving Ekotrebol very good Overall Hugs, they deserve it. They are a diversified beverage company specialising in organic beer, wine, Kombucha and juices. They smartly use their location in Spain's capital to draw on the resources and ingredients of the European Community to brew, make, package and distribute their products. Example is I bought this Helles at Carrefour's Organic shop in Barcelona's Sants/Montjuic neighbourhood. I will try to find another of their brews as well.
