a tasty new zealand hop ipa, lots of big botanical flavors in this one, a simple base beer allows these hops to pop, and there is a lot to take in here even still. its golden, frothy white headed, and almost clear, looks somewhat minimal in the glass, no haze, no deeper malts, very clean. the aroma and flavor are great though, very fresh and a cool mix of hops, i smell the white grape and honeydew notes of nelson for sure, but there are others in the mix, a slight gin note, some pear and under ripe banana, kiwi fruit, fleshy coconut, really appealing, and sort of delicate seeming without big pine and citrus notes, even though the hops are really bold, its just a different kind of profile. one weird element is that right in the center of this i taste a little capsicum character, straight up bell pepper, not a bad thing, but i dont know that as a property of any hop, and it seems a little funny in the fruity mix to have something vegetal in this way. its not strong enough to make this strange to drink, but its a curious wrinkle. the ferment is real clean, the vinous elements of the hops sing on the finish, and high carbonation is just right for this. a nice recipe, these guys are already killing it and they are brand new!
