absurd beer here, another monster from these guys in this pastry category. they say its boiled for over 24 hours, wow, never heard of that before, but the density of this speaks to that being a possible reality here, its as thick as they come. its done churro style, with toasted cinnamon. the richness is incredible, but where the pancake house maple chocolate stout went diabetic for me, this one retains more roasted bitterness, an ashen, almost burnt property in the grain beneath all the molasses and caramel desserty vibes, past even the creamy espresso roastiness this has, and it balances the beer pretty well, sweet as it still remains, its not sickeningly so, which alone is kind of impressive for what this is. lots of chocolate character here too, a smooth smokiness, concentrated malt sweetness, wet pipe tobacco, and the warming properties of the cinnamon and the alcohol together make this wintery and cozy, almost makes me want to take a nap. when i think churro and taste this, i totally get it, it even almost has the greasy fried dough thing going on, and frankly this hits closer to the real dessert than anticipated. the alcohol is not a distraction but an integral part of this, and the dosing of the spicy earthy cinnamon that comes on late is perfect. really impressive overall beer here, a whole league better than the pancake house one for my money. somehow these guys are still flying under the radar...
