On tap from the cask at The Beer Temple, Shambles seems the authentic experience. Nicely soft and full in my mouth. Tastes were mostly sweet, but also balanced by drying hops present mostly in the finish. Smells offered milk and chocolate. Dark with a generous head that stayed active. Shambles' only separation from the English classic porter is I didn't detect the blending of the old "stale" with the new. This blend creates interest for inferior ingredients or an average brewer.
But the Shambles interpretation comes from a very accomplished brewer, so the variation from tradition is welcome.

I had this on cask 2/1/24 @ the Beer Temple.
Mostly opaque brown appearance.
Big off-white head; frothy lacing remained.
Cream, oats & mild chocolate notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Cream & oat flavors up front; mild chocolate notes on the finish.
A very nice, traditional English Porter.
