Our 2nd collaboration with The Women of Binny's. A malty complex Baltic Porter with chocolate rye and flaked rye aged in Sazerac Rye barrels. Aromas of rye whiskey and dark chocolate. Layers of bittersweet chocolate, caramel and bakers chocolate with notes of coffee and dark fruit flavors. Rich and creamy with dark chocolate lingering on the finish.

Conceptually great and almost that good to enjoy.
There probably is an interesting story on this second foray between Art History (probably Chicagoland's best lager micro, but increasingly able in ales) and Binnys (Chicagoland's largest liquor retailer.) But just because I'm not going to root around for that story doesn't mean that this subtle collaboration is not a good business deal for both: Art History expands its distribution and Binny's gets to show favour to the women whose daily work makes them the most successful retailer in Chicagoland (so successful that the really Big Boys have shied from the third largest market.
As for this Baltic, nearly brilliant. Rye makes its way into Porters because it's cheaper than hops and friendlier to dark malts. So if your chocolate malts get too sweet, bring in the rye. And that's the brewing insight I derive here.
BA Very Wry Looks interesting with a nice mocha foam. Smells are full, mostly chocolate malts and supporting characters follow the lead. Tastes are balanced, and the complexity shows up second time around. Medium-mouthed bordering on full.
As for my very high Overall Hugs, that's for AHB brilliance and Binnys' women's good sense of linking up with a micro whose future is much better than most. Keep it up all !
2/7/25 I couldn't wait more than a day for a second copy. I edited the above, but stand by my rating. This is a fine piece of brewing and I'm very much glad I have two left.

A dark brown pour, a soapy looking lite brown head leaves some nice lacing. Nose says chocolate some roasted grains. Taste buds like the chocolate, some dark fruit, and booze. Mouthfeel is smooth, coats the palate. A nice beer for sure.

Brewed in collaboration with Binny's. Canned 11/6/24; drank 12/8/24 @ the Yarchives.
Dark brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.
Medium roast coffee bean, wood & mild cocoa notes in the nose.
Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Medium roast coffee bean & milk chocolate flavors up front; wood, faint rye spice & a pleasant booze heat finish.
Complex but approachable; this was a pleasant surprise.
