Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is an "American Pilsner" at 5.0% ABV. I wonder what makes it an American Pilsner as opposed to a Pilsner or an American blonde ale or lager. It's golden body displays a fingerprints-through-the-glass clarity, and it sports a short head of white foam. Unfortunately the head dropped quite quickly but I've still got a solid surface covering. There's something a little off about the aroma but I'm not sure what it is. Beyond that it just smells like Pilsner malt so maybe an American Pilsner is one that has no hop aroma. Somehow that makes sense, and yet at the same time all of the better quality mass produced lagers in America have more hop aroma than this. It's disappointing but let's see how it tastes... not surprisingly it tastes like it smells. It's got a fairly rich maltiness to it that seems to be more than just Pilsner malt but that doesn't mean that there are other malts involved, it could be coming from processing. It's got a balanced bitterness along the lines of a north German Pils but I'm still not finding any hop flavor beyond a light touch of floral character which is a massive let down. This is as much of a Pilsner as Miller Lite is a "fine Pilsner beer". Of course this has more body, it's a heavier Pils, and more alcohol, but that doesn't make it any better. At this point the head is gone, and I am using a beer-clean glass. There's also no lacing beyond where the original head was formed. That's a little odd for an all malt beer. Overall I can't recommend this one.
