A brown named after the man with the brown hat who supposedly haunts our basement, a malty finish with very mild hopping with Phoenix Hops from the UK.

Clear, very dark brown brew with plenty of foam in the Brigand chalice. Pleasant grainy nand roasted malt aroma. Strongly flavored and rather winey. Dark roasted malt dominates. Some scratchy bitterness to finish with coarse grainy aftertaste. I wouldn't call it mellow. From the 32 oz crowler can filled at the Mount Vernon brewpub.

I had this beer on tap at the brewery in a teku.
Appearance: rich dark brown hue with a thin layer of tan foam that leaves a nice lace on the glass as it dissipates.
Smell: a lightly toasty and caramelly malt character. Light, but nice.
Taste: nutty and caramelly malt, although with a rather high bitterness for a brown. It tastes more like a roasty bitterness than from the hops — kind of astringent. It’s not bad, but a little harsh for the style, I’d say.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a decent brown ale, though the harsh bitterness is a bit out of place for the style.
