Traditional English style porter, strong, malty, dark and pleasantly bitter. Delightfully warming.

A nice find from Beermiscuous, my main source of Chicagoland micros.
While this Baltic Porter's Looks may not have made fully the transition from tap to bottle (no foam after 3 minutes), its Looks are otherwise typical. Smells are subtle, no cheap chocolate thrills here. Tastes also are traditional, with just enough of the licorice and "London stale" to stay authentic... but just enough other stuff to say "American rendition." Sits fine in my mouth.
Over a year old, Kishwaukee impresses; a brewer who apprenticed with masters in Seattle after first being trained as an architect. (I also have a weak spot in my heart for architects who have found another passion... and probably a better paying job.) UnTappd has 740 unique Kishwaukee tasters and 187 this month, so it is gaining adherents. And they have a good website for a one year old and what appears to be an excellent taproom. Specializing in lagers and the British tradition, Kishwaukee even has a saison; which I'd like to taste if it ever gets into a bottle. ( That's a subtle hint to them and Beermiscuous.) A votre sante' !

Had on tap. Medium black thick looking pour with a finger of plump tan foam. Smell and taste are one in the same: chocolate sauce starts before the somewhat rugged leather, licorice, smoke and roasted malts kick in. Authentic flavorings but all very mild, looking for more umph. Feel is soft, creamy, chewy, warm and roasted. Solid debut
