aside from the belgian specialty stuff, fast fashion beers get me darn near peak anticipatory excitement when im about to drink one of them, i know its trendy and cool and always good, and i was fired up to try this one, a west coast pils with citra and nelson, and a decent bit of them, but i didnt find this real bitter. i also didnt find it super expressive as a pils, like the malt is very light, not particularly european to me, and the yeast profile is light, not quite neutral but close, so it really is more of just a hoppy lager than a pils type specifically, an observation not a critique, lots of wiggle room in this emergent style for sure. not as light in the glass as i thought it would be, more golden than yellow, short white head on it but good retention, adequate carbonation, maybe not quite as bright as it could look, but it smells and tastes real nice, the hop combination is a familiar one but a classic, citra first with lemon curd character and a softness about it that works so well with the fresh grain in here, and the southern hemisphere honeydew and white wine grape thing later, light catty character from the hops that i sometimes and more often get from mosaic. the hops stand out a lot at the end with the quicker well lagered finish, lightly perfumed to me in a way that is kind of springy and feminine, but this does have a little body to it too, a little less intense and frankly less exotic than many of their beers have seemed to me, kind of an all day everyday aura to this. very good, but also not a mindbender, some classiness with this hop profile but not quite as much of a ripper as it could be, slightly less classic proportions and pils personality in this too, but lovely beer overall, always a treat to rip into fashion stuff!
