sometimes less can be more, and this is great for its simplicity, the first dark beer ive had from these guys. a nice low alcohol frothed up and bitter oatmeal stout well hopped with cascade, not into the black ipa range or anything, but the hops are present the whole way and work super well with the dark grain, somehow there is no bitterness double jeopardy here, this is balanced and refined, on the dry side, and drinks a little bigger than its size in terms of it having a lot of oat body and it being bold on flavor. patchy dark brown head on top of obsidian black liquid, fills the glass out beautifully. the aroma has dark roast espresso bean and woodsy hops, this is wintery and cozy for being as low alcohol as it is, a touch of caramel sweetness in the middle is apparent, and its slightly bready as well, good depth to me, nicely refined too. long and smooth, must be a pretty high percentage of oats in play, but its not starchy its clean, and i love the persistent bitterness riding the body. hops seem fresh, add some peppy spice before the swallow, and wash back with a nice bite. coffee, baking chocolate, and light toffee round this out. a hearty and satisfying texture to this without too much carbonation, a fine recipe and great technical execution. i would drink this on the regular if it were available where i live, but ive thought that about most of the fash fashion beers ive had so far...
