fresh el dorado hops in this one, sparkling and kind of light to me compared to the others we had in here, but these guys are making some of the best hoppy beers anywhere right now, and i could not be more excited about what they are doing. this has a soft unfiltered look to it, a tall white head from the tap with great retention and lace, and a pale peachy color, looks lovely in the glass in low light. the nose is distinctive for el dorado, predictably fresh, but less of the mandarin and cantaloupe character than i usually get from the pellets, more tropical in this instance, things like guava and ripe papaya jump out, a hint of mango, still some citrus, yellow summery floral character too, buttercup, resinous weediness, orange hard candy, nothing too intense though, and not hardly bitter at all in the flavor, which has all the same fruity pop as the aroma but a little more balance too, earthy grain with just light sweetness that seems to bring up the oils in the hops, i get a little white bread, peach ring, and dehydrated mango, but now a little more of the melon side of the el dorado too, navel orange zestiness, some mid palate dank, cleaner later, really fresh but not green in the least, clean on the ferment, off dry but pretty fast anyway, and gentle feeling overall despite higher carbonation. really good, a cool expression of this hop, showing a little different in wet hop form than it often does as pellets, way cool. could drink this one all evening...
