ive loved these guys since the jump, and am excited to see their beer on tap in idaho, an awesome development to be sure, but this is one of my least favorites from them so far, shocking to me really, still good, but i can be a little more nitpicky with this brewery than with others, and for a beer that on paper sounds so right, motueka and nelson, i didnt adore the execution, it has some of that oversaturated greenness and bite on the back end, moderate not damning, but its enough to make me wish this was a little cleaner, smoother, subtler, perhaps being too critical, but i expect a lot from these guys at this point, especially with hoppy beers. no denying the hops are still great in this, and the beer is nice, would be a win for a lot of operations, not saying its poorly done, just that it doesnt quite have the refined perfection so many of theirs have in my opinion, and feels lesser as a result. relatively hazy and very very pale, almost milky looking, under most of an inch of lasting white foam. it smells like white peach, ripe cantaloupe, and lime zest, the best parts of both varietals apparent, somewhat starchy and slightly heavy in that regard, but modern and fresh and appealing too, this seems like it could be a bit more delicate than it is, but the potency and freshness are attractive. the flavor starts like the nose, stone fruit, clean citrus, and coconut flesh, but just past the center it goes pellet-like, bitter and green and center of tongue permeating, lightly spicy but not like as a specific hop attribute, as a product of how the hops hit generally, if that makes sense, a dosage and timing thing not a varietal thing. its there through the swallow and it is in fact the last thing i taste, although it doesnt last much longer than the rest of it, and compared to many that exhibit this overdosed element, its quite mild. freshness abounds, late melon and tangerine, some weedy dankness too, the white winey side of nelson too. a little raw and full to me on the grain side, this doesnt add much to the drinking experience for me, and i think it could be a little more tidy on the whole, but it does have some textural softness that works well with the hops. seems a touch green, maybe almost a little too new or something, or just pushed a step over the line on how much hops the beer can effectively handle, still good, but not up to the level of their best in my opinion...
