citra and anchovy hops in this modern west coast ipa, bright and fresh, an excellent expression of anchovy, easy to place in this, a varietal they have helped to popularize, and for good reason. real blonde beer, almost crayon yellow and super sunny, clear, and sporting an inch or so of loose white head from the pint can. the nose on this is pretty striking, the hops combine to hit with distinctive herbal notes, citrus, and musk melon or something, i get honeysuckle and lemon verbena, i get sliced tangerine, and i get a pungent sort of overripe thing, really dynamic, only a little bit bitter, and perhaps built atop of nothing more than a clean fresh pils type malt, very light in that regard, majorly modern in that way, but its not wanting for more grain character, at least for me. the flavor is wonderful as well, fruity white wine, white florals, and more melon and almost medicinal herbs, lemon candy and resin as it warms a little, citra holding its own with the anchovy, and its an excellent match between the two. there is a drippy hop intensity to this, but its also really easy drinking on account of the lighter body and relative dryness at the end, crisp to me too, like almost lager-esque in its quickness, very mild bitterness overall here too for the style. nicely refined beer, a cool look at anchovy at its best, and a very drinkable and interesting new school ipa, thanks to my friend for sharing a mess of cans from these guys in one session, always rad to drink their beer! this is great.
