Foggy Bottom is our go-to, year round hazy IPA. It's brewed with a large portion of wheat and oats before it is generously hopped with Idaho 7 and Mosaic hops. Expect a soft, creamy beer with notes of ripe stonefruit, passionfruit, and berry with minimal bitterness.

Got from the GreenBay tasting last year, probably from LesDewitt4beer. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours moderately hazy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing, with some streaming carbonation on the glass. Aromas of big apricot, peach, red grapefruit, orange, pineapple, pear, red apple, mango, honeydew melon, papaya, berries, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, white bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Taste follows with big apricot, peach, red grapefruit, orange, pineapple, pear, red apple, mango, honeydew melon, papaya, berries, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light pine, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; balanced creamy/grainy wheat and sticky hop mouthfeel. Light lingering resins and increasing hop oil dryness with no astringency. Nice soft feel for the style. Very juicy and lightly dank hops of Idaho 7 and Mosaic. A lot of stone fruit notes from yeast. I am getting light hop oxidation edges from it sitting in my cellar for a bit, but I can't knock it for much else. Has the London III yeast and everything so they did a great job on the hazy style.

16 oz can into a nonick pint glass.
L: SRM 3.5 pours hazy straw yellow with steady fine carbo, a thin white head, medium heavy complex lacing with half banding and froth.
S: Tropical fruits, mango , citrus, very light dankness.
T: A mellow and ripe fruits blend, oats, wheat, light yeast, it is gently sweet, stone fruit, papaya, mango, citrus pith, a light bready note, not too complex.
F: Smooth medium to med-heavy bodied mouthfeel with a medium length lightly drying finish.
O: Really smooth & balanced. A beautiful blend of hops & malts that result in lovely flavors. Very well designed and brewed. It has an elegantly pure taste and is comforting to drink. It is excellent in its style.

Canned 4/24/23 (1.5 months ago)
Appearance: Pours a mostly cloudy (35% clarity) light golden color with a strong white head. SRM of 6. (3.75)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of grapefruit citrus, some dank and herbal and hints of mango. (3.50)
Flavor: Mild flavors of grapefruit citrus with some light herbals and hints of mango underneath. Clean and muted. (3.75)
Feel: Medium-bodied, decent carbonation. Finishes is clean. (3.75)
Compared to BlackStack Strata...But Make It Pop 6/2023: Pours darker, larger head. Milder aromas and flavors. More grapefruit herbal notes. Less tropical and mango. Lighter and cleaner.
Overall: An okay NEIPA. First one from Foggy Bottom. Idaho7 and Mosaic give promise with hints of grapefruit, papaya, mango. But never quite develops the flavors here. Muted and mild. Once upon a time this would be a good IPA, but probably below average in today's day and age. (Rating: 3.64)
