New Zealand Joy Ride is the next installment in our "Joy Ride" series of West Coast IPAs that feature new and innovative techniques and ingredients. We used and extremely simple malt bill then layered New Zealand grown Cascade and Motueka in the kettle before dry hopping it multiple times with more New Zealand grown Cascade, Motueka, and Nelson Sauvin hops. Expect a clean and layered bitterness with notes of gooseberry, lemon, lime, grapefruit and white grape

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear (75% clarity) medium and pale golden color with a strong white head that is fluffy and lingers. SRM of 7. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of bright white grape, vinous and floral notes. Some white citrus and floral pine underneath. (4.00)
Flavor: Flavor follows with bright vinous white grape and floral notes upfront. Lemon and white grapefruit citrus. Then comes a pine bitterness in the middle that mixes for a combined bitter, yet juicy finish. (4.25)
Feel: Medium-body, strong carbonation. Finishes clean, crisp, and juicy, but also a strong bitterness lingers to clean the palate. (4.00)
Compared to Drekker Music & Pageantry 10/25: Pours similar, stronger head. Milder aromas. Less stonefruit and floral notes. More citrus and pine. More smooth. Winner: Luce Line
Overall: A New-Zealand West-Coast IPA. This won 3rd place the Minnesota Brewer's Cup. An interesting twist on the West-Coast with the addition of New Zealand hops. Great New Zealand flavors of white grape, lemon, grapefruit but also a bitter pine note from the Cascade. Drinks exactly as described. Juicy New Zealand flavors but also a bitter pine finish. This is novel and amazing. (Rating: 4.15)

16 oz can into a nonick pint glass.
L: Pours a lightly hazed gold color with light steady carbo, a thin white head that has very good retention, medium-light loose lacing.
S: Light citrus zest, a soft orchard note. Rather light overall.
T: Lightly sharp, grapefruit, overripe pineapple, peach, a gentle note of fruit funk, distant honey, it is tart and lightly sharp, a nuance of green apple.
F: A placid even medium bodied mouthfeel with a medium long fairly dry finish.
O: Nice lush carbonation, tart and lightly sharp tastes of fruits. 2nd pint pour has a larger head that is soapy then goes flat like the 1st beer. It is pleasant tasting and is also quenching. NZ Joy Ride is very good in its style.
