I picked schwarzbier for the style as a best fit. The can doesn't say, nor does the website, but it uses the words "dark" and "lager."
From a can purchased at the brewery, dated 1/14. The can also says 5.7% ABV, unlike the website. Poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: Nearly black, moderate carbonation and head. The head is on the dark side of tan.
Aroma: Malty, lightly sweet, coffee-ish roast malt, a hint of smoke.
Taste: Roasted malt sort of like coffee, but I use that to distinguish it from the burnt character in most porters and stouts. There's a smoke taste like in the aroma, but it's not strong. Evident sweetness but not cloying. I don't notice hop character, except for balancing bitterness. I think there is some flavor that is peculiar to this brewery, which may be something about the yeast or fermentation. The roast flavor carries into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Pleasant, moderate carbonation, moderate body.
Overall: Pleasant, flavorful, drinkable beer. Not terribly heavy, so it would be okay on a hot day, but definitely nice on colder days. Good with food.
